Witney Motor Club Chairman’s Report 2022
2022 has been quite a good year for Witney Motor Club, I feel we have raised our profile and reputation over the year. In September’s edition of Motorsport UKs online Revolution magazine Witney MC were featured in Club Corner.
We have run 8 autotests, starting with the Morning After, followed by 6 evening and one daytime events on a grass field in Bucknell by kind permission of Mr and Mrs Richard Carlton. Over €400 has been donated to Thames Valley Air Ambulance on their behalf.
Joining Motorsport UK’s StreetCar initiative and sharing our events onto the StreetCar Facebook page has widened our catchment area. We have had competitors travelling over 50 miles to our events. We have averaged over 9 drivers for all the events and over 30 different drivers have taken part in total, with many complimentary comments. Some of our new members have come to us this way.
In July the Motorshow was deemed to be one of the best ever and thanks go to Steve Boyle for organising again. The Scouts and Venture Scout Groups help to run the event on the evening and took a load of pressure of the Club members who were present. Money raised was divided between our club funds, the Scout Groups and the DEC Ukrainian fund. Thanks to the Henry Box School for the use of their field for a reasonable fee.
In August we had the Autocross which run pretty well despite the horrendous dust, but due to lower entries and a last minute dash to get a Paramedic and Ambulance it cost us a lot of money. Unfortunately the Rescue and Paramedic I had hoped would attend weren’t available and I take some of the responsibility myself as it was never 100% certain they could do it but looked highly probable until it was too close to the event on an incredible busy Bank Holiday weekend. Lesson learned.
Henry Webster was a very effective Clerk of the Course, Trevor Barson took care of Marshalling, thanks also to Jenny Coxon from South Hams MC for doing entries and secretarial duties.
A lucky set of circumstances averted a possible major woodland disaster when having retired Fireman Simon Bradley nearest marshal to an out break of fire in the garden on the edge of the wood and after a long period of drought with tinder dry grass and trees, saved the day. Simon’s prompt action and 5 fire extinguishers saved 3 teenagers with a firework from getting into big trouble, as well as saving a 70 acre wood.
Thanks to Mark and Craig Tredwell for setting up the Autocross track and to Mark and Leo for flying the Witney flag in the ASWMC Championship. Congratulations to Leo for being voted Driver of the Year both by the drivers and the marshals too, that is a tremendous accolade which he should be very proud of,the club is proud of him too!
Our final event of this year was the Kernahan Garages Autotest held on Sunday. 13 drivers took part including a StreetCar contact from Wantage who is now looking for an MX5 to do more events. Having the Club car is a real bonus when encouraging new people to take part.
It is great to see 14 year old Leo Adderley taking part and it looks like we may have 2 more juniors joining us next year.
Going forward to next year we have an opportunity for some publicity at
Bicester Heritage’s Scrambles as I have links with the Heritage Skills Academy and we can display one of our competition cars on their forecourt, Henry Webster took his Hill Rally Discovery along this year and was very well received.
We are always on the look out for suitable venues for autotesting, autosolos and car trials.
I hope to run another summer series of midweek autotests again as they have been very successful this year, not only with new competitors but new friends too.
Thanks to all the committee for their help this year, particularly Sue for keeping the money side under control and Trevor for dealing with the membership, and thanks to all who have supported our events especially Mark Bradley and Dan Adderley. Also thanks to Michael Dodds for keeping the website up to date.
Jimmy.

Message from the Chairman
Hello everyone, I hope everone is having a good 2022. We have just had possibly the best ever Witney Motorshow with a great array of cars and vehicles on show and lots of support from the Witney public who turned out on a lovely summer evening.
We have just finished our Summer series of Evening Grass Autotests over near Bicester and I am delighted with the number of competitors we have had and the standard of competition. Entry numbers for each event has ranged from 6 to 15 and in all around 30 different drivers have taken part.
I am pleased to announce that we have been accepted as a StreetCar Club by Motorsport UK. The StreetCar initiative is designed to encourage and make it easier for new people to get into our sport. Motorsport UK will pass over to us details of interested people who will be able to compete in our events where a standard road going car is eligible to compete.
We are still at the planning stage for some more events, but we are pleased to give advance notice that we will be running the following major events subject to official permission and possible date changes.
